Somewhat dissapointed
Date:February 13, 2011

OK. I've had this thing about a week now and this is what I have found so far:
After removing it form the box and setting it on the desk, it would not recognize the ink cartridges. Had to reinstall them several times before they were accepted.
A) Something in the Driver / Software package changes all of the names of the various paper and envelope sizes from what Windows uses making it difficult to know what size paper you are actually calling for. (ie a #10 envelope becomes a "Com 10" - 4x6 or 5x7photos are now Photo. Photo 2L etc. VERY CONFUSING)
B) LINUX DRIVERS DO NOT WORK. They will not Extract or Install. Tried it out on Debian 5, Mepis, Sabayon. Would print on Fedora 11 without drivers but scanner would not work. If you're looking for a Linux printer, this isn't it. That was the reason I purchased this. IF anyone has any suggestions let me know.
C) So far NO paper jams but the paper cartridge makes changing paper sizes quickly, tedious. Don't even think about 2 sided printing. Handles envelopes pretty well so far.
D) Photo quality good but not great. Have not been able to try Faxing yet.
Other than that if you're using Windows it's a darn nice machine, fast and relatively quiet, on screen menu is useful and easy to understand. The USB port is in a weird place and there is a door int he back for jammed paper removal.

Nice Machine

Brothers generally have very easy network setup. They recommend setting the MFC-J410w up from the display and it worked without a hitch like that. The display is full color unlike past lower priced all in ones. The wireless radio is very stable.
It is not the fastest on the market, but you need to look at the whole machine and seriously consider the ink cost. You will easily spend the price of the machine each year with other printers. Brothers are fantastic for their low ink cost. I've installed dozens of different models and find them highly usable.

Quality Printer

It's an outstanding printer for the price. I enjoy the use of it. The printer's wireless feature was somewhat easy to configure. I have it configured such that my computer automatically connects through the router to the printer. I use it as a scanner, copier, and printer - it works great. I like it a lot.

It is elegant and also the best fastest inkjet printer. It has a amazing quality with color print outs but should not compare the actual photo printers. Great Printer for home use.

Good Decision!

I was replacing a Kodak all-in-one that I couldn't get to hook up to my new HP laptop with Windows 7. I liked the Kodak fine, but the Brother is faster, very quiet and super easy to set up without a USB cable. The paper tray is bigger and easier to load also. I installed the driver software to the laptop and to my older Dell desktop running Windows XP without difficulty going through an older Netgear wireless router.

Machine good, tech support questionable

We bought another Brother when our old one died after 4.5 years. It was relatively easy to set up and install. However, the CD Rom for documentation (user manual) did not work saying the file was defective or something like that. After contacting the company, they sent the wrong CD Rom to replace the defective one. The 2nd time we contacted them, they promised to send the correct CD Rom. We're still waiting after almost 3 weeks.

Best printer for the money
Date:January 21, 2013

This is the 2nd one that I have owned. The first one lasted about 15 years. Not the same exact model but the same comparable model. I don't use a printer a lot but when I do use it, I need something dependable. When I first got this one, it started printing in green only. I called the company and the rep told me it sounded like the print heads needed cleaning. I followed their instructions and it went thru the cleaning process three times and now it is working perfectly.

Love IT!

I was looking for a printer for business and personal usage but more business than personal. I was pleased to find that the printer was very easy to set up and connecting it to my network was also very easy. I've had this printer for over three months and must say that I'm very glad I purchased it. I use it two to three times a week and have not had any issues with any of the ink running out since I purchased the printer. It cleans itself periodically and goes into sleep mode when it's not being used, which I love. I am also able to print things from my cell phone through the wireless network and love that also. I have a compact printer for work that also scans but is nothing compared to this printer. I like everything about this printer and have nothing negative to say about it. The price I paid was worth it.

Complete Satisfaction
Date:October 6, 2011

I owned a Brother printer prior to this one and enjoyed virtually trouble free performance for several years. My replacement choice had to be another Brother.
I chose the MFC-J410w not only for the price but for the very attractive features. I use it only in a home environment and, likely, will never really realize it's full potential. I have had only one minor problem which was easily solved with a quick call to Brother.
I can't even complain about the price of ink replacements. So far, I feel that my purchase was as sound as I could have hoped for.
Don't pass the opportunity to at least try one at your local dealer. Time well spent.

Bought this for wireless. Works great. That's all I use it is wireless. Can scan wireless too. Just install software on each computer. I use it for computers where I have no room for a printer.

Great Value

Overall rating is excellent and this machine has many features so I will focus on areas that could be a little better. 1. Some double paper tray feeds 2. Unexplainable prints twice or more using wireless. 3. Clearer instructions for scanning and faxing. 4. Ink cartridge recognition sometimes requires multiple insertions of cartridge I still rate this 5 stars because every printer I ever used had some problems and this unit was better than most. I purchased two of these machines which speaks for itself.

Good value machine

Good machine for the money with so many functions. Quality of print is good, but kind of slow to start. Wireless works well once you figure out the setup. The photo printing is the bad part, not user friendly and you need to reach in retrieve photo since machine does not eject far enough. Paper sizes for photos hard to figure.

great little printer

This is my first Brother product. It was simple to set up [but I hard-wired it to my system so I can't say anything about the wireless function] It is quick and quiet. The printing quality is fine for such a inexpensive unit. [It is temporarily replacing a laser printer] The fax system has been used only once but worked fine. A great machine for a inexpensive product. I would buy another Brother product.

Great printer so far
Date:June 5, 2011

I liked the first MFC-J410W so much, I bought a another one. Both on wireless network. I worried about 2 of the same printers on the same network, but there were no problems at all. Setup was very easy. Could not use fax, though, but that was because of VoIP phones, not the device. Print quality is good. The only con I can see so far is that there is no envelope feed. You have to remove all paper from the feeder tray before filling with envelopes. Otherwise, it is a grat all-in-one.
