Printer purchase

The printer has lived up to expectations so far. Delivery was on time as stated in on the web page. I was able to install it on my wireless network with no problems at all. The software installed perfectly even on an ancient XP OS. The automatic double side printing is great. All in all I am very pleased.

Firmware Issues

With the help of a Brother technician I assigned the manual feed tray as Legal Size. When I print a pdf that contains letter and legal size documents, the printer consistently jams whenever it switches to legal from the manual tray. The first legal page is ok, but it will jam on the 2nd page (if there are 2 consecutive legal pages to print).
The Brother technician said I should try returning the printer for a different 8710DW, but the replacement printer had the same issue.

I purchased the 8710DW because I need a laser printer that will print both legal and letter size documents at the same time. When I would print just legal, it worked great, when I printed just letter it worked great, but when e-doc were sent to me that contained both legal and letter sized documents, and when the sizes swicthed from one to the other the printer would jam. I thought it might be a defective machine so we tried another one with the same results. If it had not been for this one critical problem, I would have been very happy with it as the scanner and fax were great.

Excellent B&W duplex

It has performed extremely well so far, particularly for duplex printing of largish PDF documents - 70+ pages. It is fast, and is not as loud as I had expected given some comments I had read online.

Pleased with printer

The printer is fast. We really like being able to copy to email.
One glitch we learned the hard way. If you have ground fault on the circuit where you plug the printer into, the printer's ground fault will trip the breaker. Our printer is currently set up in the foyer until we have the ground fault removed from the wiring going to our study.

This seems to be a great unit for the money. I use all aspects of the unit fax,scan wireless print etc. Great quality fast copies fast scan. replacement catriges are inexpenpsive. This is as of being 1 month old hope it continues.

Less than expected!

We had another Brother MFC pinter and it was GREAT. This one locks up at least once daily. We have to turn the power off and then back on to get it to print. When you are used to one working GREAT without ANY problems for years and you replace it with one that "Brother" recommended, you are majorly disapointed.

Frustrated

We purchased the Brother MFC8710 but have been frustrated with the purchase. The functionality of the product is OK but set up was a nightmare and we hired a professional to set up our network - documentation for set up was inaccurate and extremely unhelpful and purchasing toner cartridges for the unit has been impossible. There are no toner cartridges in stock - all must be ordered online and Brother has not released enough so that even online orders are unavailable.

Problems printing legal sized pages

When printing from letter to legal, machine will print 1st page of legal then jam with second legal sized page feed. No problem if printing letter to 1 page legal then back to letter. May have to return machine.

Great home-office laser printer. Easy. Set-up to home computer and network. Functions as advertised. Took a little time to get the scanning function to save to the proper computer in the network, but all works perfectly now. I would definitely recommend this to others.

excellent machine

I have been using this machine for about a week now, and I love the speed for which it prints pages.It was not easy to set up the network at the beginning,but with support from Brother customer service we were able to get everything set up. Written directions could have been better. As far as operation is concerned, I have no complaints.

I purchased the All-in-One/Multifunction laser device because I needed a machine that could copy, fax, print and scan documents quickly. I love this machine as it meets all my needs with printouts that will not run when wet, unlike inkjet. The cost per sheet is very competitive. This machine is a must for a small independent business.
