MFC-7860DW Printer
Date:May 6, 2013

We ordered one to test with our case management system. We required the onboard emulation of PCL. It worked fine, so we ordered nine more and they work very well. The initial cartridge ran out quickly, but the normal ones work fine. The scanning and copying are both very quick and very clear. We scan all our documents at each desk saving time and space. Our counter clerks use the front two printers for copying client documents which reduces the run to the departmental copier. I give this printer an excellent rating.

great bang for the buck

I've owned this printer for 8 months now. This is an ideal printer for those who need reliable basic functions. I'm a homeschool mom and print daily on this thing. Mainly documents and not a lot of pictures. The starter print cartridge lasted me 500 pages. When I started getting, "warning cartridge low", I clicked the options to ignore and kept printing. When print started to streak a little I took out toner, shook it and put it back in and got some more pages from it. Purchased brother brand refill from amazon - cheaper there.
Pro's: Customer service has been great in helping set up wireless functions and in helping with basic performance. Others have stated problems with wireless function but I've had none. I've used it with different routers and still no problems. I have had to reconfigure with each new router but the techs have helped walk me through each time with no problems.
Prints well, copies well, and scans well
Cons: None for what it says it does. This printer only duplex prints. It won't duplex copy or scan scan 2 sided - 2 sided automatically. You can do it manually by placing a duplexed page in the flat bed scanner and it will prompt you to flip the page when it has scanned the front. You can do multiple pages this way and then have it print all the scanned pages in page order when your done. A bit of a pain if you were needing to do this often, but I don't so that is OK with me. I'd pay more money if I needed to do this daily and buy a printer with this ADF duplex option for copy and scan.

great machine, lousey support

This multi-function machine works even better than the earlier model I had...it prints darker from Word. It is very similar in design, so easy to get familiar with. However, I had a problem getting it to talk to my computer and called Support. What a disappointment. In the past Brother support has been very good. Not this time. I got someone on the other side of the world who didn't have a clue. And was also very hostile and wouldn't connect me to anyone else. Wish Brother would use only US personnel for support.

I should have bought this printer a long time ago. Wireless works great, printing, scanning, faxing, it does it all very well. The only little negative I have is I wish it would kick the pages out a little farther to make it easier to grab them when they come out.

love it

I absolutely love the machine. The only problem I have is that sometimes it answers the phone with the fax sound before the phone answering machine does. So often people would tell me they called and could not leave message.

I have owned 3 brother products to date including the new 7860DW. I wore out the other 2. These are a great value for the money. I LOVE the dual sided printing it saves me loads of time. I did buy the machine when I saw it on sale to save money.

Major disappointment

I purchased the MFC-7860DW for my small legal practice, based on online reviews. When I got it to my office to set up, I found out that to print an envelope you have to open the back cover, pull down two levers, then open the front manual feed slot, slide the levers to the correct size, then feed one envelope at a time. Believe it or not, some of us still have to send out snail mail. I have had to hook up an old inkjet printer that allows me to load multiple envelopes
For a simple person wanting a printer that can: be wireless or wired, print double sided, and have one set of toner that can last for much longer period of time any regular ink can, this is the perfect printer. I have realized long ago that I barely use color, and this is really the perfect solution. It prints super fast, and barely makes a noise. A fair price for something so awesome!
It's a must have!!!!!

Excellent MFC Value

This MFC-7860DW replaced an older HP 3100 Multifunction Copier. This MFC is used in a single user / wireless configuration for home / office use. To set the MFC up for FAXing, I basically followed the Quick Setup Guide, referencing the Basic and Advanced Users Guide. I set the Fax Transmission Report to Verification, On + Image and Real Time Transmission Off. This has worked well and gives confirmation of transmission to include a partial snapshot of the FAX which would be very useful if used in a mulit-user environment. To set the MFC up for wireless use, I chose to do it Manually from the Control Panel. I went to the MFC-7680DW site and followed the video and everything went well (take notes). To install the MFC-7860DW Drivers and Utilities from the CD, I Left My Antivirus Software Running, printer & router ON. Before proceeding with the install, however, I first viewed the video from the Brother site and took notes. The AV software asked for permission for the install, then all proceeded without incident. The printer confirmed connection with the PC and all was operational. Since having this MFC, I have used basically all functions except printing envelopes & labels. Using recommended paper, I have printed 1822 pages, scanned, faxed etc. without a single jam or misfeed over a 4-1/2 month period. I consider the MFC-7860DW very reliable and an excellent value. Last but not least, the Duplex feature has proved very useful, and print speed (and quality) are quite good. Yes, I would recommend this MFC to a friend.

I replaced my HL5250DN , which was rock solid, to get the all-in-one benefits. Setup was fast and easy and I've used it to print from multiple PC's on my wired network as well as from an Android tablet and my iPhone using Brother iprint. I've also faxed and copied without a hitch. This is the kind of value and performance I've come to expect from Brother products.

Serious connectivity problems

This is my 3rd Brother wireless printer. The first two hooked up like a charm and are just there when I need them. This one is a complete pain in the a**. Printing etc are fine but just won't stay online via the wifi link. I am an experienced user (30+ years) and nothing I try works for long. DHCP or static IP doesn't matter. I think that when it goes to sleep it won't wake up.

Not a big reviewer, but Machine receives faxes, am using as a local printer and scanner. Scans well, scanning software fairly intuitive. Two complaints , one of which I should have known, I should have read the literature better. I read duplex and assumed scanning and printing, Does not duplex scan. The other biggie is the manual feed tray always shows paper jam on envelopes. When it does feed an envelop it wrinkles it. As far as a recommendation I would depending on person's needs. I run a tax office so as fax it is great, as a scanner not so much, need duplexing.

The printing function works well, as does the fax. The scanner doesn't allow me to scan multiple pages as one file. Every page saves to a separate file. Very cumbersom to email recipients. Have yet to figure out one touch scanning. Also fairly noisy, except when sleeping.

If you don't need color, this printer saves you a lot of money and the toner cartridge lasts forever. I highly recommend it. No problems with setup!
Printer works great, however, goes through toner quickly and toner is too expensive!

Could Be Better

Prints great but there are a couple of issues: (1) Labels almost always end up printing crooked and (2) when there is a jam you have to completely remove the drum and reinsert it (which has absolutely nothing at all to do with a jam).

Macbook pro 15 and 17, G5 tower, 5 iPads, 7 iPods. i have owned 3 HP printers, 2 Cannon printers - all MFC's (AIO). this is the first one that scans to my computers. It is the first one that does it all via WiFi. I had no problem with the upgrade to snow leopard or Lion. Brother, why did I forsake you.
