Great value...reliable

Purchase of the HL-2240 was a good choice for me. Easy set-up, ready to roll from the get-go. Reliable...after several months of daily usage, no problems or hang-ups. I have been using Brother printing products for the past ten years and they just keep getting better! They're cost effective and easy to take care of.

Works well

I don't print a lot and went 13 months before I had to replace the initial starter cartridge. Printer continues to post that the new cartridge is low on ink but it's new. It still prints well and I have no further complaints. I got tired of replacing dried up ink tanks and bought this laser. It works well, is quiet and easy to replace cartridge and paper. I'm happy with it except it not recognizing the new cartridge.

Beware

Prints great. Problem is with the toner. When I purchased printer, I purchased toner to have as back-up to use if I ran out in the middle of a project.
Never touched. Never opened, but when I needed it, the toner cartridge was empty.
I just replaced it with the TN-450. What does my supply level indicate? It doesn't. The message is "unknown toner".
It is a good printer; but the printer cartridges are unreliable.

Just what I wanted

Turn it on and it is ready when I want it. No hastles with cartridge error messages. 98% of my printing is black and white text. No problems! I have recommended this product to friends.

Superb value

I am very pleased with my HL-2240. I run Ubuntu Linux at home for the most part, so I get a little nervous trying new equipment. My worry was needless, Ubuntu 10 immediately recognized it and installed the correct driver. When I upgraded to Ubuntu 11, it continued to function. I am very pleased with it, decent speed and excellent print quality. I am quite pleased with my purchase, I feel that I got quite a bang for my buck. I not only would recommend this printer to a friend, I already have recommended it to several.

Goodbye HP, HELLO Brother!

This is one of the best printers I have ever used. After years of replacing HP printers and getting soaked on every ink cartridge, I figured it was time for a change. I'm amazed everytime I hit the print button and the pages start printing at an unbelievable speed right away. I'm hooked!

too troublesome

Printer won't startwith new cartridge. The Amber toner light stays on -- machine apparently does not recognize it has a new toner cartridge installed.
I probably should junk the whole printer and go out and buy another brand.

Free from my Inkjet Addiction

I work with several small non-profit organizations and print about 500 pages a month. The cost of inkjet ink was horrible. Using the Staples print shop was also pretty expensive and inconvenient due 20 mile drive. This 2240 is fast and effective. I haven't had any of the difficulties others described yet so I'm a happy camper. But even so, with Staples sale and rebate I got this printer for nearly the price of 2 Black inkjet cartridges. Also, expendables are very inexpensive so I can continue to support the non-profits I work with.
My only regret is not getting the wireless version.

Great Printer

Great little printer. I replaced a HP 4L laser printer with the HL-2240. I use it strictly for email and letter printing (no color needed). It is fast and quiet enough. It does put out a lot of heat so I have to remember to keep the cabinet door open while it is on. My regret was not getting the DW version so that I could network it with my lap top... next time!
